Hi everyone,

Well with the DCC course closed due to the greens replacement programme I’m sure that may of you have noticed that Beachwood is taking quite a lot of strain at the moment due to the lack of rainfall and the high traffic it is currently experiencing. We will be doing some aggressive Verti-draining every two weeks on the greens and tees so that the water we do put down gets right down to the roots of the grass. We will also be trying to manage the traffic on the tees so golfers will experience some different tee placements over the next few weeks which should actually make things quite interesting with regards to scoring. All of this is part of our attempt to manage the course to make sure that it plays the very best it can so please bear with us while we manage this process.

Certain parts of the Caddies section have been working on the course at DCC for the last 6 weeks now and they are really feeling quite proud of what they have been involved in to date. The extension, levelling and reshaping of the 16th tee is one of the projects that the caddies have been involved in and they really have done a fantastic job. The club does obviously not have unlimited funds for projects like this so any donations that members would like to make would be greatly appreciated to keep the caddies working on other small worthwhile projects just like this one. Members wanting to make donations may call me directly on 082 797 1077.

As we mentioned in last week’s newsletter both Pro Shops have finally been able to obtain the correct software to enable members to swipe their HCP cards when checking in for a round of golf. This means that members will be asked to swipe their cards so that an un-captured round will reflect on the HCP terminals. This will also mean that members will have to be far more diligent in handing in the scores after their round to avoid a penalty calculation. We know that this has been a long time coming so please be patient with the Pro Shop staff while they try to make it commonplace to swipe the HCP cards on registration.

See you on the fairways,
Jason

DCC crowned 2010 Premier League Champions

Murray Leyden’s League Golf Update

A successful defence of our 2009 KZN Premier League title and Durban Country Club are the 2010 champions. Mission 2010 accomplished.

Our top golfers travelled to Southbroom this past weekend with single-minded determination to defeat Southern KZN and thereby retain the Premier League title we won so convincingly last year. When at full strength, we certainly are a formidable team, as evidenced by the emphatic 9½-2 ½ victory against a very good team, which included current Springbok Steven van Heerden and KZN stalwart Gavin Sole, on their always tricky home course. read more

League Update

League is coming to an end with the League Finals at Kloof on 28 October. The A/B & C teams each have two more league matches to play against Royal at home on 17th September and against Umhlali away on 23rd September and two wins would be very good as the league is still in the running for a win. The weekend team is in a very strong position with only one more match to play on 18th September vs. Kloof at home. Wishing all teams good luck in the run up to the league finals.
