Latest update on the Dynamic Rating calculation

Below is a simple explanation of how the Dynamic Rating calculation works:

  • There must be a minimum of 24 male or 24 female players in a specific am or pm field in order for Dynamic Rating to be taken into account.
  • Net scores for the field are then sorted from the lowest to the highest.
  • 20% of the field is then taken (20 if field of 100 players) and the new CR value is then based on the 20th lowest (for example) net score on the sorted list.
  • If the SR for the course is for example 72, the minimum the CR value can then be is 71 and the maximum it can be is 75.
  • No penalty scores, N/R or scores for players with no or N/A handicaps are taken into account for the calculation.

DCC_Press_Release_FINAL.pdf

“We are not facing bankruptcy”, says Durban Country Club chairman

Durban Country Club Chairman, Richard Pemberton, dismissed allegations that the club was facing bankruptcy as alleged in yesterday’s The Mercury.  “It couldn’t be further from the truth,” said Pemberton.  “Whilst the recession has put pressure on this club, as well as most clubs around the country, we are very positive about our long term future.  Assets exceed liabilities by more than R57million.”  Read more...

DCC crowned 2010 Premier League Champions

Murray Leyden’s League Golf Update

Our top golfers travelled to Southbroom this past weekend with single-minded determination to defeat Southern KZN and thereby retain the Premier League title we won so convincingly last year. When at full strength, we certainly are a formidable team, as evidenced by the emphatic 9½-2 ½ victory against a very good team, which included current Springbok Steven van Heerden and KZN stalwart Gavin Sole, on their always tricky home course. Such is the strength in depth we currently enjoy that we were able to achieve this result without the promising Ryan Birnie, who won the North Coast Open last month, and Keith Forde, runner-up in the recent KZN Mid-Amateur Championship, each being replaced for this game by KZN reserve and KZN Under 23 captain Drikus van der Walt and our own club champion James Buzzard respectively. It was in fact van der Walt and Buzzard who set the course alight during the morning’s foursomes, reaching the turn in just 30 strokes before going on to win comfortably 5/4. Wins by two holes in the top match by Michael Hollick and Elton James and by 5/4 from Sean Fenger and Clive Lazarus saw us through to lunch 3-1 to the good. Nearly there!

As things turned out, we dominated the singles, winning six and halving one of the eight matches. Clive Lazarus found an opponent in top form and went down, but after skipper Murray Gilson had secured a half in his match, it was wins all the way home in the run-in to the Premier League title. Gritty Sean Fenger won 2/1, Genial James Buzzard cantered home 4/3 and the elegant Lyall McNeill was in cruise-control on his way to a 2/1 victory in his singles. At the business end of the afternoon’s golf, KZN reserve and often underestimated Elton James got past Cobus Oosthuizen by two holes, while young Drikus van der Walt and Michael Hollick were too good for local favourites Steven van Heerden and Gavin Sole, winning their matches by 2/1 and 3/2 respectively. And that, in anyone’s language, is about as comprehensive as it gets. Durban Country Club 9½ Southern KZN 2 ½. Congratulations Murray Gilson and all those who represented the club with such distinction in retaining the Premier League title this year. You have done yourselves, your fellow golfers and your club proud. Well done to you all. Mission 2010 accomplished – with distinction.
